Prof. Dr. Truong Nam Hai is currently a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Biology (formerly the Institute of Biotechnology), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. He received his Ph.D. from the Shemyakin–Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, in 1988 and was conferred the title of Professor in 2012.
His research focuses on the application of genetic technology in the expression and purification of enzymes, therapeutic proteins, and biopeptides, as well as the development of recombinant antigens for vaccine production and diagnostic kits. His research also includes de novo sequencing and assembly of viral and human genomes, along with the application of metagenomics to identify genes encoding lignocellulose-degrading enzymes from multi-genome DNA data of microbial communities.
He has led numerous international and national research projects and actively participates in postgraduate training. Currently, he is leading a project to construct a Vietnamese reference genome using long-read sequencing technology.
